A photo of the Hupman Brothers...
Our friendship harkens back to before Mike even picked up a drumstick, to those awkward teenage years where you sort through the Rolodex of life's options and emotions. As my dad puts it we spent the better part of 5 years in our parents basements playing random video games, board games, sports, walking trips to McDonalds when it first opened in the Kennebecasis Valley, etc... I remember when Mike first started banging on the drum kit and his modesty meant that I never fully understood just how talented he was becoming.
Mike on the Drums...
We chose different universities and geography made that friendship more difficult to maintain. Ironically a few years later we met randomly in a bar in St. Andrews, NB where I was drinking with a group of fellow history geeks and he was playing. It was great o catch up and we spent a good few minutes of that evening chatting away. We saw each other again in Fredericton a little over a year later when the University pub booked them but we largely went back to our own lives. When I went to Korea, Mike followed the travel blog and sent a few e-mails to catch up. It wasn't until last night though that I had the opportunity to see him in the flesh again. Like with Kev, as if the years apart had been mere days, the conversation flowed, the jokes evoked genuine laughter as we laughed at some of our teen activities...This past week with Kevin and Mike has sure sent me stumbling down nostalgia lane and it's been great to spend time with those friends that will always be close no matter where our lives go...
Mike's Brother-in-law Jason (and my web guy) shooting the Hupman Brothers
Mike is now a full time musician, playing with the Hupman Brothers and picking up work with several of the East Coast's top musicians. I can't wait to continue to follow his career.
